Skoda Adds Mild-Hybrid Tech to Boost Octavia & Kodiaq

By Thomas Lathrop • Dec 19, 2025 • 5 minutes read

Mild-Hybrid Power for Octavia and Kodiaq in 2026 is confirmed by Skoda Australia.

When the revised models come locally in early 2026, Skoda Australia has revealed that the popular Octavia sedan and wagon, as well as the Kodiaq big SUV, will have a new mild-hybrid drivetrain. The goal of the change is to increase actual fuel efficiency while preserving the driving qualities that Australian consumers demand.

Instead of going directly to complete hybrid systems, Skoda has chosen a lighter and more straightforward electrification option that increases economy without altering daily driving habits.

An explanation of the new 1.5 liter mild hybrid engine

A 48-volt mild hybrid system and a 1.5 liter turbocharged gasoline engine form the core of the modification. This configuration facilitates energy recovery while braking, lessens load during urban driving, and helps the engine during acceleration.

In contrast to true hybrids, the system uses more than just electricity to power the car. Rather, it facilitates quicker stop-start activation, more seamless engine functioning, and short coasting during slowing down.

With 110kW and 250Nm of power output, it is comparable to the old 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine seen in the Octavia lineup.

Variations in Transmission Over the Range
Only a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is used with the new mild hybrid engine. The 1.4-litre engine's eight-speed automatic transmission was discontinued as part of the update

Greater Urban Savings with Kodiaq Mild-Hybrid

For the Skoda Kodiaq, which replaces its current 2.0-litre turbo-petrol all-wheel-drive configuration in certain models, the efficiency boost is even more substantial.

In order to reduce weight and mechanical complexity, the new mild-hybrid Kodiaq switches to front-wheel drive while keeping the same 1.5-liter engine.

Significantly Reduced Fuel Use.

The new 110TSI mild-hybrid offers the following advantages over the departing Kodiaq Select 140TSI:

  • 6.0L/100km total fuel consumption (down 3.0L/100km)

  • Urban fuel consumption down to 7.0L/100km from 12.1L/100km.

  • Official CO2 emissions data are still pending confirmation.

Seating and Drivetrain Changes for Kodiaq Buyers

Across the board, the introduction of front-wheel drive coincides with a variation in seating configurations: for the first time in Australia, the Kodiaq will be available as a five-seat model, putting it more in line with urban family use.

The Kodiaq Sportline however keeps no changes, continuing with the more powerful 140TSI engine, all-wheel drive and seven-seat layout.

Updated Equipment for Octavia Variants

More significantly, Skoda has refreshed standard equipment across the Octavia lineup.

More Comfort as Standard

The Octavia Select is now fitted as standard with:

  • Smart keyless entry
  • electric tailgate

Newly fitted 17-inch alloy wheels replace the old 18-inch set for improved ride comfort.

New Signature Package Replaces Sportline

Moreover, the mid-range Octavia Sportline is replaced by a new Select Signature Package. This option adds:

  • Upholstery of black or tan leather
  • Electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massage
  • HUD Head-up display
  • Matrix LED-headlights
  • Smoked glasses
  • Larger 18-inch alloy wheels

Equipment Changes and Signature Pack for Kodiaq

The Kodiaq Select 110TSI mild-hybrid shifts the emphasis to value, replacing leather trim with cloth upholstery and introducing a new design of 19-inch alloy wheel.

Pricing And Launch Timing

Skoda Australia has confirmed that local pricing and final specifications for the mild-hybrid Octavia and Kodiaq range will be confirmed closer to their early 2026 launch.

Given that fuel efficiency is the sole decisive factor for Australian buyers, adding the mild-hybrid technology positions both models as more economical alternatives without having to make a jump to plug-in charging or full electrification.
